A meeting at the Town Hall in Weston-super-Mare has been called to decide the future of the Museum. It will be tomorrow (18th October) at 6pm. If you can attend and show your support please arrive before 6pm.

An article appeared in last week's Weston Mercury to suggest that the Museum will be on the agenda of the Weston-super-Mare Town Council meeting on Monday 12th July. For more details you can read the article here.
 
Latest news (16/06/2010)
There does not seem to have been any definitive news in the press regarding the outcome of the meeting of the Executive on 8th June. However it does appear that plans submitted to the Executive seem to be going ahead. A draft of the minutes from the meeting can be found here
 
In addition to this the Museum are currently looking for more volunteers so if you have some free time on your hands and think you could help read here for more details. There will be a session on Saturday 19th June between 11:30am and 2:30pm for people who are interested in volunteering to find out more.

Still no new official news as to what is happening with the Museum. However an article in today's Weston Mercury suggests a deal to save the museum may have been struck. The deal involves North Somerset Council, Somerset County Council and Weston-super-Mare Town Council. To read the article click here. There is also an article on the North Somerset Council website here, which suggests the meeting to discuss this proposal will be on 8th June. The report that will be presented to the Executive will be available on the North Somerset Council website next week. A link will be posted on here as soon as we have one so check back soon.

There is to be a protest meeting outside North Somerset Museum at 10:15am on Wednesday 17th February led by the Friends of the Museum. Please bring yourselves and any placards and balloons.
 
In addition to this there will be a public meeting at 10:30am on Saturday 6th March at the Blakehay Centre, nr Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare.

North Somerset Museum - News (30/01/2010)
 
North Somerset Museum is located in Weston-super-Mare and is the main respository for artefacts in North Somerset.
 
On Thursday 28th January 2010 the Weston Mercury ran a story about the potential closure of North Somerset Museum, the creation of a travelling exhibition and the sale of the current building. A full copy of the article can be read here.
 
The matter was set to be dicussed at the North Somerset Council Community Services and Scrutiny Panel meeting on 19th January 2010. A copy of the agenda can be seen here and a copy of report 6.2 which covers the proposals mentioned in the Weston Mercury which was presented at this meeting can be found here.


Whilst it is still unclear exactly what might happen, many CANS members have expressed concern and are asking what they can do.

 

The Friends of North Somerset Museum have asked that people write to:-

  • The Leader of the Council, Councillor Nigel Ashton
  • Your local councillor
  • Your local MP
  • Send a copy of your letters to the Friends of North Somerset Museum
